Analog Telephone Adapter Selection Guide
Generally Analog Telephone Adapters (ATA's) are used by people to connect to a voice over IP service provider (telephone company). ATA's are used to connect analog telephones (or telephone lines) to newer voice over IP phone systems and service providers. These small boxes convert the analog
signal of your phone into voice over IP which then uses the data network to send the call.
There are two types of ATA's, the most popular is used to connect an analog telephone to a service provider. These ATA's have one or two FXS ports (station) for connecting analog telephones or fax machines to. Other ATA's contain one or more FXO ports (office) for connecting analog telephone lines to. These are small devices, usually about the size of a pack of cigarettes,
will also have one or more Ethernet jacks for connecting to your IP PBX system. Device configuration is usually via a built-in web interface.
