Cisco 7920 Wireless IP Phone Accessory Guide |
The Cisco 7920 Wireless IP Phone has several accessories and replaceable parts
and the information on them limited. In this article we will explore some of the different options one has for the phone. The part numbers for the
accessories reviewed here are as follows:
CP-BATT-7920-STD (standard battery)
CP-BATT-7920-EXT (extended battery) CP-DSKCH-BUN-7920 (desktop charging stand)
CP-CASE-7920-HOL (leather holster style carrying case)
CP-CASE-7920-FLC (leather full cover style carrying case)
CP-PWR-7920-NA (battery charger)
CP-EARBUD-7920-ST (wired earbud headphone)
The
CP-BATT-7920-STD is the battery that is included most of the time with the
7920. It is a 3.7 volt lithium ion battery that is rated at 1760 milliamp hours
(mAh) this is basically how much juice the battery holds - the higher the mAh
the better. This is actually pretty high compared to most cell phone batteries
which are rated usually around 1000 mAh. But WiFi is notoriously power hungry,
so 3.5 hours of talk time is a good real world estimate.
The CP-BATT-7920-STD is manufactured by Cisco Systems and
there are no aftermarket models that I am aware of.
The second battery for the 7920 is the
CP-BATT-7920-EXT also known as the extended battery. It is also a 3.7 volt
lithium ion battery but it is rated at 2400 mAh (26% more than the standard
battery) so it holds a decent amount more power than the standard battery
providing up to 4.5 hours of talk time. The nice thing about the extended
battery is that it is not any larger than the standard battery so it doesn't
stick out from the back like some extended cell phone batteries.
The CP-BATT-7920-EXT is also manufactured by Cisco Systems
and there are no aftermarket models that I am aware of.
The
CP-DSKCH-BUN-7920 is a desktop charging stand for the 7920 and it is
probably the most sought after accessory for this phone. It holds the phone
secure on a desk for while charging and it has an extra slot for charging a
spare battery in addition to the main slot for the phone. The CP-DSKCH-BUN-7920
does not include any cables so a CP-PWR-7920-NA is still required to charge the
phone, but it does hold it securely on a desk while the phone is charging.
I definitely recommend the desktop charging stand if you
have a 7920 because you can charge a spare battery, it looks more professional
and you don't have to worry about damaging the phone by knocking it off your
desk.
The
CP-CASE-7920-HOL is a holster style carrying case for the 7920. It is very
similar to a standard cell phone leather carrying case and allows you to dial
numbers with the case on through a clear plastic cover. It is very well made
and provides plenty of protection from drops, spills and impacts. The
CP-CASE-7920-HOL also comes with a belt clip which can come in handy if you
don't mind wearing the phone on your belt. I am personally not a big fan of
wearing things on my belt so I really like the fact that you can take the belt
clip on and off if you like (unlike my Motorola RAZR carrying case which I had
to rip out with a pair of pliers).
The CP-CASE-7920-HOL allows for access to all of the ports
on the phone (headset, data and charging) while the case is on.
The
CP-CASE-7920-FLC is a full case carrying case for the 7920 and is similar to
most PDA carrying cases. You must remove the phone from the case to dial any
numbers but it provides the best protection for the phone. It is made out of the
same tough leather the CP-CASE-7920-HOL is made out of but it has a slight "Man
Purse" look to it. I would probably prefer the CP-CASE-7920-HOL for this reason
unless I was really worried about damaging the keypad via impacts. One thing I
thought was left out on the CP-CASE-7920-FLC is protection for the antenna which
seems more likely to get damaged than the keypad. The CP-CASE-7920-FLC also has
a belt clip that it is not removable unless you wanted to rip it off which would
not be too difficult.
The CP-CASE-7920-FLC allows for access to all of the ports
on the phone (headset, data and charging) while the case is on.
The
CP-PWR-7920-NA is a battery charger for the Cisco 7920. It has a standard
wall wart form factor like most cell phone chargers and is about the same size.
It is a 5v charger with a maximum output of 10W and has a cord that is 6 feet in
length. The "NA" stands for North America so it plugs into a standard two prong
North American wall outlet. There are several other models for different
countries, if you require one of these models please contact a sales
representative.
The CP-PWR-7920-NA is manufactured by Cisco Systems and there are no aftermarket
models that I am aware of.
The
CP-EARBUD-7920-ST is a wired monaural headset for the Cisco 7920. I have
found the earbud to have a comfortable and secure fit in my ear and it's
definitely more convenient than holding the phone with the shoulder. The
CP-EARBUD-7920-ST has a shirt clip to keep the cord from getting in the way and
a small microphone several inches below the ear piece. The cord is a total of 4
feet in length which should be plenty for most situations.
In summary, I think the most important accessory for the
Cisco 7920 is the extended battery. The standard battery is fine but nothing is
more frustrating than a dead battery, next would be the desktop charger and
holster carrying case. You must have a CP-PWR-7920-NA or the phone is unusable
but it usually comes bundled with the phone. The CP-EARBUD-7920-ST is convenient
and useful and the CP-CASE-7920-FLC offers the most protection for this very
expensive (and sometimes difficult to replace) wireless IP phone.
